Speaking with a reliable source on the Minerals Council, the BIA is choosing not to renew the lease that will soon expire for the office space they have with the Tribe. This is at the option of the BIA, not the Tribe. We are not running the BIA out of Pawhuska, end of story. The new Congress has expressed an interest in taking over this office space in the future. Secondarily, the BIA has not approved the budget for the current year and as such, the Minerals Council has approved, on a temporary basis only, the continuance of the current pay scale until October 1, 2006 when the salaries for the Minerals Council will be adjusted downward to be in line with the responsibilites and amount of time that they will be devoting to take care of thier duties in the future.
